Founder and director
Kate Raynes-Goldie is a leader and passionate advocate for Western Australia’s online games and creative innovation sector, part of a growing $150 billion global industry. She founded and runs Playup Perth, which has supported more than 100 WA game developers and creative innovators. Her goal is to see WA producing 20 per cent of Australian games by 2020, up from today’s 7 per cent. Dr Raynes-Goldie has encountered many challenges working in a male-dominated sector. Rather than accepting the status quo, she chose to empower herself, move forward and be a positive force for change. Every event and initiative she runs has diversity and inclusion implicitly baked into it. Dr Raynes-Goldie crafted, launched and ran the Film and Television Institute’s Games and Interactive Program. She also recently launched Future Human Academy, with its pilot program, Future Ready Teens, run in partnership with the youth-run co-working space Bloom.
