Jessica McLagan started her career as a mechanical engineer, then worked in management consulting at Mckinsey & Co, before returning to Perth to work at family-owned fashion label Tokay Boutique. The business manufactures locally, a rarity in the modern fashion industry, and it has grown despite economic uncertainty and online competition creating major headwinds. Ms McLagan serves as managing director of the company, which now has five retail stores in Western Australia. She said the next step for Tokay would be to expand on the east coast, with an aim to launch there in late 2018. Longer term, Ms McLagan plans to take Tokay to international markets, with both wholesale and online channels to be used for a rollout starting in 2020.
