Co-head, children’s lung health
Telethon Kids Institute
An internationally recognised medical researcher at the Telethon Kids Institute, Shannon Simpson has made significant discoveries about the long-term lung health of babies surviving preterm birth. She has published 26 scholarly articles, and a book chapter that guides training of paediatric respiratory physicians throughout Europe. Dr Simpson has won international awards for research excellence, including from the European Respiratory Society and American Physiological Society, and has established a preterm community reference group. Having been on the receiving end of the healthcare system through multiple cancer treatments, Dr Simpson is an advocate for including the community’s voice in research, and regularly volunteers and fundraises for medical research.
