Co-founder, commercial director
Michael Beilby left a full-time job six years ago to start drilling innovation business Minnovare with his founding partner. Minnovare’s Azimuth Aligner helps point drill rigs in the right direction, rapidly reducing the time required to set up before drilling. Manual alignment takes between 45 and 90 minutes, while the Minnovare aligner takes about 10 minutes. When the business was started, Mr Beilby and his partner had no capital and an empty office in Bentley. He said his most immediate priority was to convince a debt financing syndicate with banks such as NAB and Macquarie to back the business, its strategy, and technology. Minnovare now has Newmont, BHP Billiton, Swick Mining Services, Boart Longyear and Rio Tinto as clients. Minnovare has also undertaken project work outside of mining, with the aligner operating on the Crossrail tunnel in London.
