Perth Airport is the gateway to Western Australia and is one of the State’s most important elements of public infrastructure. Due to the vast distances separating our population centres within our State and beyond, aviation plays a significant role in much of the State’s economic, social and cultural activities. Over the past six years, the number of passengers travelling through Perth Airport has doubled with 11.5 million passengers recorded in FY10/11, making Perth Airport the fastest growing capital city airport in Australia.
The Perth Airport estate encompasses aviation services, extensive commercial and property precincts and areas of environmental significance. Approximately 9,000 people are employed across the estate within these areas.
Perth Airport is entering an exciting phase of redevelopment. Over the next three years, more than $750 million will be invested in expanding and upgrading our facilities to improve the customer experience. The first stage of the redevelopment will see the construction of a new terminal to cater predominantly for the resource sector. The current International Terminal will also be extended and upgraded, and will include a new shared domestic/international pier capable of handling A380 aircraft. Improved transport links, expanded car parking and increased capacity for more aircraft are also key elements of our redevelopment. These extensive works represent the first stage towards achieving our vision to have all commercial air services operating from one, consolidated location at the site of the current International Terminal.
